Standing desk height calculator

Enter your body height and get recommended seated and standing desk heights, seat height and monitor position — the same starting points ergonomists use, in seconds. Adjust for your exact proportions after: these are starting values, not gospel.

Centimetres, e.g. 175

Ergonomics rule of thumb

Desk heights are for the table surface, measured from the floor. Elbows at ~90°, forearms parallel to the floor, monitor top at or slightly below eye level.

Your ergonomic starting points

Seated desk height
74cm
sitting, feet flat
Standing desk height
105cm
standing, knees soft
Chair seat height
44cm
thighs parallel to floor
Monitor top (eye level)
152cm
screen top ≈ this height

How to apply this to a standing desk

  • 01 Set the desk so the keyboard surface sits at your seated desk height — that's where your forearms rest parallel.
  • 02 When standing, raise the desk so your wrists stay at the same height — the standing figure is a close starting point.
  • 03 If the desk has a memory keypad, save both heights and alternate every 30–60 minutes.
